But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleeps in Jesus will God bring with him.
1 Thessalonians 4: 13 – 14
Our heavenly father found it fitting that Veloria Tela Johnson be granted eternal rest from this temporal life on December 17, 2012.
On September 13, 1954, Veloria (Vody) was born to Carrell and Ida Mae Johnson. She grew up on the North Side of Fifth Ward in Ryon Edition. She was the second daughter of three girls.
Nurtured in a Christian home, Veloria early on professed a belief in Christ and was baptized at an early age by Reverend Robert Miller Shepherd Sr. into the fellowship of Greater Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful worker on the Junior Usher Board and Youth Choir.
Veloria attended James D. Ryon Elementary School, Attucks Middle School and graduated from Jesse H. Jones Senior High School. She was a graduate of Houston Community College, in the field of Computer Technology.
Veloria joined the New Destiny Praise and Worship Center Church family in January 2007, and was a faithful member until her health began to decline. She loved God, her pastor and the New Destiny church family. She often stated that as soon as she got better she would be back at church.
During the last two years of her life, Veloria’s health began to decline. God called Veloria to his abode on Monday, December 17, 2012 at the West Houston Medical Center, thus ending her period of temporal suffering and beginning her journey of eternal joy, peace, and boundless grace!
Veloria was preceded in death by her father, Carrel Johnson, son, Damien Flournoy, loving uncles, Robert Howard (Pete), and Ezell Holman (Uncle Holman), aunts, Evie Lee Carter, Teola Holman, Willie Leon Brown, and Clara Jean Holly, and her beloved grandparents, Henry and Louise Howard.
She was a loving mother to Tremaine Johnson and Damien Flournoy.
She was a loving, caring and devoted grandmother to Tristan Johnson, Darius Flournoy, Treasure and Tremaine Johnson, Jr.
Veloria was a treasured aunt to Dominic Bailey, Emerald Norton, and Gabriel and Jordan Byrd.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her mother, Ida Mae Morgan, two sisters, Sheryl Norton (Frank Norton) and Monica Byrd (Willie Byrd) of Northfield, Ohio, one daughter-in-law, Belinda Kay Johnson (Houston, Texas), uncles, Henry Howard, Jr., (Houston, Texas) Clifford Jacks (Detroit Michigan), aunts, Alice Jacks (Detroit Michigan) and Margaret Howard (Houston, Texas), Devoted and treasured friends, Michael and Jacqueline Walker, Angelic and loving step-mother, Ruth Johnson, and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
