James Walter Lewis, 88, born on January 19, 1924 in St. Martinville, Louisiana to Albert Lewis and Vivian Arceneaux Lewis, passed away April 13, 2012 in Houston, Texas. He attended Phillis Wheatley High School and graduated in 1943. He was Honorably discharged from the United States Army Air Force, and graduated from Texas State University for Negroes (Texas Southern University), with honors. He devoted 36 years of dedicated service to Maxwell House Coffee Co. and retired as the Personnel Training Coordinator in 1986. During his off-time, he was the owner/operator of Lewis Radio and T.V. Repair Shop for approximately 40 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Lewis and their nine children: Virginia Marshall (James), Dedriel Thompson (Lawrence), James Reginald Lewis (Dianna), Brenda Lewis (Walter Scott), Stephanie Johnson (Larry Don), Sharon Ettinoffe, Norman Lewis, Byron Lewis, Dr. Eric Lewis (Dionniece) and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation and recitation of the Rosary will be Friday, April 20 from 8-10 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 5102 Dabney. The mass will begin at 10 AM. The Rite of Committal will be at Paradise North Cemetery.
